On July 20-22 in the Kiev, on autodrome “Chaika”, was started the first stage of the Championship of Ukraine on ring races. Thanks to joint efforts of the Automobile federation of Ukraine, Ring committee of FAU and TSO of Ukraine, despite a heat of summer, national ring superiority assembed impressive structure of participants.
Competitions passed on a small ring of the capital autodrome “Chaika”, and more than thirty sportsmen, representing five classes, accepted participation in it: Touring-Light, Lada-1600, Lada-1500, Lada-1500 Juniors and Formula E-8. On start of a season, there arrived all last year’s champions led by Igor Skuz (Touring-Light) who already managed to participate in all races of the European Championship ETCC.
Racing weekend consisted of free races and qualifications (Friday) and two races (Saturday and Sunday). Racing starts in classes of the Lada-1500 and the Lada-1500 Juniors, and also Touring-Light and the Lada-1600 were incorporated that allowed the spectators to become witnesses of set of bright battles in each of racing starts. For convenience of fans, the direct transmission of all racing starts with comments of all events on a track was organized on the big screen.
The pilot of Marchenko Racing team, Vladimir Marchenko, took part in the most numerous class of “Lada-1500”.
Following the results of qualification, Marchenko took the 11th place from 18 participants.
In the first day of competitions, for the five first circles, he already was on a sixth place. However, breakage of a drive gear did not allowed him to finish race – a technical descent.
In a night, mechanics eliminated breakage and Vladimir Marchenko started from 17th position. After 5 circles our pilot was already going 10th. At this time on a track, two other participants got in the incident, joined by the third, landed on the roof. The marshal threw out a yellow flag, a Safety car came on track and the entire column moved on a ring after it until the track was cleared from the damaged cars.
Approximately 7 minutes were resting until the end of race. The marshal gave a start! After some circles, Vladimir Marchenko, in a struggle with the most skilled ring racers, finished sixth! A very worthy result!
